Bookkeeper Contractor

Overview

Groundwork is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper (contractor position) to support the organization’s financial operations. The ideal candidate is an experienced professional who can work independently, communicate clearly, and is accurate and organized with financial bookkeeping. The contracted Bookkeeper will manage day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, maintain clear financial data, and support periodic reporting needs. This is a contract position with flexible hours, and work load may vary based on organizational needs.

Location

Traverse City – Hybrid (some time in Groundwork’s Traverse City office will be necessary)

Employment Type

Independent Contractor (1099)

Compensation

Competitive hourly or fixed-rate based on experience

Reporting

The Bookkeeper Contractor will work closely with Groundwork’s Finance Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of payroll and related payroll taxes and reporting with applicable city, state and federal agencies
  • Entry and payment of accounts payable and execution of check runs
  • Entry of deposits and accounts receivable
  • Preparation of monthly bank reconciliations
  • Assistance with preparation of paperwork for annual financial audit
  • Management of financial paperwork filing system
  • Data entry in QuickBooks for bi-monthly personnel timesheets

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a bookkeeper or accounting professional
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and practices
  • Proficiency with Quickbooks Online
  • Knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Excel Microsoft Word, Google Sheets and Google Docs
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
